a fully stocked kitchen

I feel no shame in saying that I love grocery shopping —

Making a list and planning exciting dinners to have each night of the week,

walking up and down the aisles and looking for the best deals on the items I need,

getting free samples of whatever coldcut I’m buying at the deli counter,

buying more snacks than necessary because they are on sale…

Food shopping is a Sunday morning activity that I always enjoy. I usually go solo, because T isn’t into the whole grocery store scene. But we make the list together, and I come home with many bags (including special snacks for him) and a low charge on my card — it works.

Last weekend though, T decided he would accompany me.

Talk about a little kid in a candy store.

We need broccoli, peppers and onions, I told him as we perused the fruit and vegetable section.

Mango. he responded. Definitely mango. Three should be okay, right?

Right…

And then, but look! Corn! Corn is so easy to make, you just put it in the pot and leave it and its yummy and…

Then in the snack aisle: You know what we should get? Goldfish. Will you eat them with me? They’re so good. Also, I tried these chips on the airplane that you would like. We’re going to get them.

And so it continued until our cart was brimming with delicious food not on the list.

My card sighed a little when we paid.

But the kitchen cabinets and fridge smiled – full to the brim, waiting to be emptied.
